Need Support?

Many parents feel overwhelmed or exhausted by the stresses and difficulties of everyday life. Sometimes they have no one to give them encouragement and support when they most need it. Whether you need support for yourself, or someone else, Home-Start Wigtownshire is here to help.

There are many reasons why you may need help through home visiting or our family groups such as:

  • Feeling isolated, maybe with no family nearby and struggling to make friends
  • Disability/Illness in the family (parent and/or child)
  • Mental Ill Health/Postnatal Illness
  • Multiple Births/several children under 5
  • Help with Budgeting
  • Family Breakdown
  • Joining in your Community

What happens next?

If you live in Wigtownshire and have at least one child under the age of five, you can refer your own family for support from Home-Start.
Health visitors, social services, education and other agencies can refer families.

Our service provides free, confidential, informal and friendly support.

After meeting with the family to discuss their specific needs, they are then matched with a volunteer. The support we give each family is unique and depends entirely on their circumstances.

Home Support – Your Home-Start Wigtownshire Volunteer will:

  • Visit your family on a regular basis
  • Provide practical support
  • Be a listening ear and someone to talk to
  • Encourage you and your child to play together, establish routines and have fun
  • Assist to access and signpost to other services
  • Accompany to appointments
